Overview

Perfect for participants with limited time, this condensed birding experience offers a rewarding introduction to Trinidad’s rainforest ecosystems. Based at the renowned Asa Wright Nature Centre, the trip provides immediate access to a rich diversity of forest species, many observable right from the lodge’s famous veranda.

A highlight of the experience is the opportunity to observe Trinidad’s remarkable Oilbirds—one of the world’s few nocturnal, fruit-eating birds—both in evening conditions and during a guided visit to their cave habitat. This short but carefully designed itinerary delivers an efficient and memorable rainforest birding experience.

Accommodation

Stay at Asa Wright Nature Centre for one night, set within a 1,500-acre protected forest in the Northern Range. The Centre offers comfortable accommodations, well-maintained trails, and outstanding birdwatching directly from the lodge.

Itinerary Highlights

• July 28 – Day 1: Arrival and Rainforest Birding: Transfer to Asa Wright Nature Centre. Enjoy afternoon birding around the Main House and veranda, followed by an evening opportunity to observe Oilbirds. Overnight stay.
• July 29 – Day 2: Forest Trails, Oilbird Cave, and Conference Transfer: Begin the day with early morning birding, followed by a guided walk along the Centre’s trails, including a visit to the Oilbird Cave. Afterwards, transfer to the hotels.
